The Web is abuzz with debate about whether CNN correspodent (and doctor) Sanjay Gupta did the right thing when he got involved and helped suffering Haitians after the earthquake.
Of course journalists must help the victims of tragedies they cover. But in this case, it's hard not to believe that CNN sent Sanjay Gupta to Haiti so that it could film him saving lives. Should anyone doubt him, Sanjay can make the ultimate comeback _ "A child needed help, so I helped. What choice did I have?"
But CNN also knows that Sanjay Gupta in Haiti makes great television. So do the rest of the networks, which also sent reporters who just happened to be doctors to Haiti. That exploits the tragedy, and will only make people dislike journalists more. If you want to help Haitains, go ahead, but don't brag about it on camera.

Doctors are for helping injured people, not to report in front of the television.
